Lost Season 5: Jughead

Coming Soon. Episode 3 Live Blog, this Wednesday, 1/28!

Join us this week as I live blog episode 3 of Lost Season 5. The title is Jughead, supposedly related to Jughead from the Archie comics. If that is indeed the allusion, I would imagine Hurley will have a big role in it.

I need to make a correction. I actually think Jughead may be a reference to Locke. First of all, only people at least as old as I am or older would be familiar enough with Jughead to be given that nickname (by Sawyer?). Second, it may very well be a nickname given to Locke when he was younger (in high school), and that would have been the heyday of the Archie comics. Jughead was a bit of a misfit, and even though he didn’t participate in sports, he was quite athletic (due to his amazing metabolism).

Also, rumor has it that Jughead will be an island-centric episode, and much will be revealed about a particular character.

Season Five Premiere Q&A

Where is the island?  Not sure — Faraday is working on it, though.

When is the island? Hmm, seems like it (or some of its inhabitants, or both) are bouncing between about 3 years before (aka “Yemi’s Plane Crash” time, during Desmond’s stint in The Swan), and sometime in the future (when Richard removes Lock’s bullet, etc.), with a couple of bigger jumps (Daniel showing up with Marvin Candle in the Orchid, and the final jump of “The Lie” when some pretty hostile others come near to cutting off Juliet’s arm — these could be the same time period)

When will Jack shave his beard? Yes! (And there was much rejoicing.)

Whose eyes will open first? A bit of a departure here, showing the alarm clock moving to 8:15.

Is Jin alive?  Darlton seemed to indicate this possibility in “Destiny Calls” when mentioning that Sun is having trouble dealing with BELIEVING Jin to be dead . . . stay tuned.

Will Jack end up with Kate? We didn’t really expect this to be answered in the first epi, did we?

Will Sawyer end up with Kate? Sawyer is currently bonding with Juliet (time travel experiences will do that — like have you noticed how mellow Miles has become in his interpersonal relationships?)

Will we ever find out the connection with the numbers? Yes, but not anytime soon.

What exactly is Smokie? (not Robinson) Hey, it’s one of the great mysteries of the show.

Well, we answered what we could, based on “Destiny Calls,” “Because You Left,” and “The Lie.” Tune in for “Jughead” on Wednesday, January 28th at 9:00 pm PST, blogged live!

How Will Lost Season Five Open?

Okay, so my wife and I have been pondering what’s going to happen on Lost this season and particularly how the season premiere will start. Here is a sampling of our thoughts and comments:

Let’s start with a recap

So far, each season opener has been impressive:

  • Season 1: The up close shot of Jack’s eye opening and the disoriented wandering in the middle of the jungle before walking out upon the carnage on the beach has now become a part of the American consciousnes. I still enjoy watching that scene for the nth time, not to mention the many other similar episode openings.
  • Season 2: Began with Desmond in the hatch. Who could forget Dessie’s workout routine? It was so unexpected that my wife and I thought we had the wrong channel, so we switched around the other networks before coming back and realizing it was Lost.
  • Season 3: Remember the season four opener? Who could forget Ben’s “I guess I’m not part of the book club anymore” line followed by the crash of flight 815. This time, we knew not to change the channel even though we had never seen Juliette before.
  • Season 4: We got a glimpse of the opening shot in the previews the weeks before. In fact it was such a bizarre snippet sandwiched in between other clips, that it started up a little firestorm on the official message board. I thought it looked like an banana volcano erupting. It turns out that it was Hurley’s rebuilt muscle car plowing through a pile of mangos in front of a fresco. Who knew. At first I was a bit disappointed — no scene revealing a new aspect of the island — but once we discovered what led to the OJ-esque car chase, and Charlie visited Hurley in the holding cell, I was pleased.

So now, how will Damon and Carlton (the Lost writers) throw us a new curve ball? What new character will be revealed? Or will it be an existing character? What new aspect of the island will be shown? Will it be in the past, present, or future?

I have two favorite theories: one, maybe it will be Rousseau’s arrival on the island? Another possible character might be Annie, Ben’s childhood friend (sweatheart?). My wife just posed the thought that it might be from Richard Alpert’s perspective (he’s the guy that keeps showing up across the timeline without ever aging). I like the first and last choices best.

If I’m right on any one of these, please note the date on this post (it’s not redactive). We shall see.

Lost Season Five Premiere

Folks,

We are nigh upon the long awaited season premiere of Lost. Inspired by Dave Barry’s 24 Live Blog, I too plan to live blog, but on my favorite show of all time: Lost. I can see the 3D logo gracefully rotating towards me with the odd swirling aeolian harp like sounds as I anticipate the penultimate season, and in honor of Damon Lindeloff and Carlton Cuse, I plan to live blog it so all 3 of my friends might possibly read it.

No matter. I must fully embrace my geek-dom, and so, on Wednesday, January 21st at 8:00 pm PST, I will begin my live blog of Lost, titled Lost: Season Five Live
